Below are pictures of a homes crawlspace in which a new addition was added on. The picture on the left is someone's idea of a joist support. Those little blocks of wood are supporting the floor above it. No wonder it squeaked when I walked on it.
The right picture is this same builders idea of a supporting beam pier. WOW looks like a deck support to me. This is a 4x4 supporting the entire floor above it. The estimate to repair these things was $18,000. Good thing he had the home inspected!!!
